The extension of the park is an impressive 36,000 hectares. Thanks to the archaeological sites of Paestum, Velia and the Certosa di Padula, in 1998 the park has become World Heritage Site from Unesco. The park of Cilento is also awarded with the title of Geopark and Biosphere. The park is undoubtedly the most important biogeographic complex in southern Italy. Its unique geographical location, its coastlines, its rivers, its mountain ranges, give the area a varied morphology that offers a variety of climatic environments and breathtaking scenery.
